Uploading your website over FTPS and SFTP
How to create file access in the portal and connect with FileZilla or WinSCP.
You upload website files over FTPS or SFTP. Both connections are encrypted; the server does not accept unsecured FTP.
Creating access
- In the client portal, open the domain and go to FTP access.
- Click New access.
- Choose a name — lowercase letters, digits and a hyphen. We add the domain suffix automatically, so the name
designerbecomes the logindesigner.yourdomain.sk. - In Folder, enter where the access should reach, for example
www. An empty field means the hosting root. - Choose a password: at least ten characters, including a lowercase letter and an uppercase letter or a digit. Write it down, we will not show it again.
Connection details
The server name is shown in the portal under Connection details and is the same for every access of the domain.
- FTPS: port 21; in your client choose “FTP over TLS (explicit)”.
- SFTP: port 2222 — note, not the usual port 22.
- Username and password: the same for both methods.
Where to upload the website
Website files belong in the www folder. A subdomain has its own folder, created when the subdomain is set up.
Access for an external contractor
Create a separate access with its own folder for a designer or developer. When they are done, disable or remove the access — the files stay untouched.
The folder limits file transfer, not how the website runs: the access cannot reach above the chosen folder over FTP, but scripts uploaded into it run under the same account as the whole hosting.
